Parent SBDM Election Process

Parent Teacher Warrior Council (PTWC) Site-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council Parent Election Process 

What is the SBDM Council? The council is the governing body for our school. It determines school policy for curriculum, staffing, discipline, scheduling, instructional practices, extra-curricular activities and other matters concerning the daily operations of our school. This council meets on a monthly basis and for special called meetings. 

Who serves on the council? Four parents, six teachers, the school principal and assistant principal. 

Who may run for the council? Any parent, stepparent, or legal guardian of a student who will be attending our school during the parent’s term in office. A parent is ineligible if he/she is an employee or relative of an employee of that school or the district central office, or a local school board member or the spouse of a school board member. 

What is the term of office? The parents elected will serve a one year term. 

If I want to run for council, what do I do? Come to the school and fill out a nomination form. You may nominate yourself or another parent with their consent 

Who may vote in the election? Parents, stepparents, and legal guardians of the students attending school during the 2013-2014 school year. 

When do we vote? At the designated time.

Nominations for parent members will be taken for 3 days. The election will be held 2-3 days after nominations have ended. The election will be from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm. Parents will sign a paper letting the PTWC know who voted. Parents will vote for 4 parent members. In the event of a tie, there will be a tie-breaker between the ones who tied for the fourth position. The persons who voted will be called and asked to come back at a designated time to place their tie-breaking vote.

Regular Meetings of the SMS Site Based Decision Making Council will be held on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
